I'd give it a shot. I haven't seen Summer Wars yet, but I believe he made Our War Game (2nd Digimon Adventure movie, and Part 2 of Digimon The Movie). Here's hoping this movie gets licensed and dubbed.

I expect it will fall under the radar, so to speak, because it appeals to Type A "fans" but Type B "otaku" are taking over.

Type A: A person who simply enjoys "anime.", Evaluates anime based on direction, voice acting, art, etc., Hates shallow anime with no real content. Example: Fans of anime like Lain or Ghost in the Shell.

Type B: Loves moe elements. Doesn’t like complex anime. Doesn’t care if story is awful, as long as the characters are of interest. Evaluates anime based on which seiyuu are in it and what the characters look like. People who like K-ON!, Strike Witches.

Well I really liked it. But wolf or no I progressively thought her son was becoming more and more of a selfish asshole. Puts his mom through a ton of shit then goes off to find his true calling, nope, asshole. I liked the girl and how she wasn't stereotypically tsundere for once.

The storyline revolves around touching and beautiful events. BUT! The ending!!! What is up with the ending?! Ok, sure, Hana is still smiling and 'happy' in the end. But... but... possibly the most unsuitable, callous ending for a movie that starts off in a way that attracts almost all movie consumers. However, in the end, it was a good movie. Yes it was.

I watched the movie few days ago. Fortunately it was much better than I was expected (I was feared that maybe it would be a crappy movie like Summer Wars). One of the best anime movies I've ever seen.

The boy wasn't happy going to school and being a normal human. The point is that parents have to let go of their children and let them make their own decisions and do what makes them happy, even if it's painful for the parents.
It's a lot like how a lot of teenagers get no support from their relatives when they come out of the closet, or end up pursuing an unconventional path in life such as an career in art.
I for one think it's really cool that they didn't go for the obvious safe ending of having both kids end up being upstanding adults with normal lifes, and did something really interesting instead.
